Prof Yoshiharu Omura

Professor, Research Institute for Sustainable Humanosphere, Kyoto University, Japan


Prof Omura obtained his Bachelors, Masters and PhD Degrees in Engineering from the Kyoto University, Japan in 1980, 82 and 85 respectively. He joined the Research Institute of Sustainable Humanosphere (RISH) of Kyoto University in 2004, where is now a Professor of Computer and Space Science. His research Interests are in the space plasma physics and simulations. His significant scientific achievements are: Particle simulations and theoretical analysis of electrostatic solitary waves; Non-linear theory and simulations of chorus and ion cyclotron emissions and the associated acceleration and precipitation of radiation belt electrons. He has received the Zeldovich Award of Committee on Space Research (COSPAR), Commission D, 1992; Tanakadate Award of Society of Geomagnetism and Earth, Planetary and Space Sciences (SGEPSS), 1996; Science and Technology Award presented by Minister of Culture, Sports, Science, and Technology in Japan, 2006, and Appleton Prize of International Union of Radio Science (URSI), 2017.
